Food Adulteration: 12,500 kg Skimmed Milk Powder, 620 kg Paneer Seized in Patiala

A special team of the Ludhiana Health Department confiscated a large quantity of paneer and skimmed milk powder from a milk chilling center and a paneer production unit in Chutehra village in Samana block today in an effort to stop adulteration in milk and milk products.

On the orders of the Punjab Health Minister, the state Health Department has launched a special campaign against food adulteration, which includes inter-district raids.

Health officers led by Ludhiana District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. Gurpreet Singh seized 620 kilograms of paneer and 12,500 kilograms of skimmed milk powder.

In addition, 13 kg of fat spread was discovered on the premises of the milk chilling center by health officials. According to reports, health officials feared that adulterants were being used in the production of paneer there.

DHO Gurpreet stated that the samples had been collected and delivered to the Kharar food testing laboratory.

According to official government data, Punjab has topped the list of adulterated and/or misbranded food goods in India, despite strong attempts by the local food safety authority to eradicate the problem.

Adulterated food is dangerous since it can be toxic and affect one's health, as well as deprive a person of nutrients necessary for appropriate growth and development.

This, unlike contamination, is done on purpose. Often used to degrade the quality (and increase the quantity) of milk in order to illegally profit. Adulteration of milk poses a major health risk.

Adding water, detergent, or other substances to milk is a common method of adulteration. The worst thing is that some adulterated foods can lead to cancer, the most deadly disease.

Urea, formalin, detergents, ammonium sulfate, boric acid, caustic soda, benzoic acid, salicylic acid, hydrogen peroxide, sugars, and melamine are some of the major adulterants in milk that have serious health consequences.
