On Monday more than 32 acres of standing wheat crops of 3 farm owners have been engulfed in flames in different incidents in the district of Faridkot, Punjab as the direct consequence of the sparking of a combine's wires.
Kothe Warring village's crop was destructed on 20 acres, whereas Araian Wala village's crop had been destroyed on 12 acres.
According to Harcharan Singh, the fire started in the daytime as a result of sparking from a combine's wires.
Harcharan as well as the other two farm owners, and Nacchatar Singh Jeet Singh, had leased the land for farming purposes. The three farmers have experienced a severe loss.
MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon managed to visit the Aranianawala village in order to inspect the condition. He requested the administration to provide him with the recorded data of all incidents of crop damage caused by fire accidents.
He also urged the administration to initiate a site survey as soon as possible.
As per Faridkot deputy commissioner Ruhee Dugg, a special damage evaluation will be performed on the field for assessing crop damage. She also stated that the compensation will also be provided to the farmers who have lost their crops due to fire.
Previous Fire Incidents
This is not the first case of crop damage by fire. Recently, a farmer from the same Arianawala village lost more than Rs. 12 lakh after his standing wheat crop on 8 acres was turned into ashes. A short-circuit is said to be the reason for the fire. The short circuit was caused by the overhead electricity wires.
Furthermore, the fire severely damaged the combined harvesting machine, that was being used in the field at the time. Fire tenders were called in to extinguish the flames. Farmers from the neighboring village also joined forces.
