Satya Pal Malik, the governor of Meghalaya said that the farmers will fight a "fierce battle" against the government if the government does not pass a minimum support price (MSP) law.
He said he will join the movement after his term as governor of Meghalaya ends, speaking at a Jat community event in Jaipur. He has recently criticised the government over farmer concerns on multiple occasions.
"The farmers' movement isn't over yet; the dharna has come to an end. Farmers would fight a fierce war against the country's government if a law on MSP is not passed "Mr. Malik expressed his thoughts.
He stated that he has only four months remaining as governor of Meghalaya and that he will join the movement once his term is through.
When farmers protested against farm laws, Malik said he went to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and warned him that injustices were being committed against them.
He stated that he suggested to Prime Minister Modi that the situation be resolved with the farmers, but that Modi told him that they would terminate the dharna on their own.
"I said they (farmers) would go only when you (the PM) left," he continued.
Beginning in November 2020, tens of thousands of farmers, largely from Punjab and Haryana, protested outside Delhi's borders for months, asking that the Centre repeal three disputed farm laws. After the government repealed the farm laws in December 2021, the protest came to an end.
He slammed the Adani Group, asking Mr. Modi how the company is becoming richer while the poor people are being ruined. He has made headlines in the past for his criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's regime.
Malik claimed last month that the administration had failed to deliver on commitments made to farmers in December of last year.
Some of the protesters' requests that the government promised to consider before they halted their dharna were the withdrawal of cases filed against them during their agitation against farm laws, a legal guarantee on MSP, and compensation to the families of farmers who died during the protest.
Malik claimed in January that when he went to meet Modi about the farmers' issue, the latter was "arrogant," and he had a five-minute fight with the Prime Minister.
