The Congress government in Chhattisgarh has decided to return the land of farmers in Bastar district acquired by the government in 2008 for the proposed Tata Steel plant project in the area.
The order issued by the Revenue Dept. of the state notified that the land is being returned to its original owners as per the provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The order is to return 4400 acres of land in the tribal-dominated area back to farmers.
Bhupesh Baghel, CM and Congress President Rahul Gandhi had promised to farmers ahead of the state polls that their land in Lantigua area of the district, will be returned to them if the Congress came to power.
The villages where acquisition was held include Chhindgaon, Kumhli, Beliyapal, Bandaji, Daabpal, Bade Paroda, Belar, Dhuragaon and Sirisguda and Takarguda.
