Centre has approved the procurement of over 54,000 metric tonnes (MT) of Moong and more than 50,000 MT of groundnut under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for the 2025–26 summer crop season, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare said on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
According to the ministry, 54,166 MT of Moong will be procured from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat, while 50,750 MT of groundnut will be procured from Uttar Pradesh. The initiative aims to ensure farmers get remunerative prices for their produce during the peak harvesting period.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also approved a 15-day extension of the procurement window in Andhra Pradesh, pushing the deadline to June 26, 2025. The move, officials said, was taken in the interest of farmers and to ensure wider participation in the ongoing procurement drive.
The Centre has approved procurement of Tur (Arhar), Urad, and Masur up to 100 percent of state production for 2024–25 to reduce reliance on imports and boost domestic pulse production. The procurement will be handled by Central Nodal Agencies such as NAFED and NCCF.
This policy will continue for another four years, till 2028–29, as announced in the Union Budget 2025. This move aims to help India become self-sufficient in pulse production and promote crop diversification.
The procurement is being carried out under the umbrella of the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA), which includes the PSS, Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS), Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), and the Price Stabilisation Fund (PSF). The schemes are designed to provide assured prices to farmers and shield them from sharp market fluctuations.
