Inconsistencies have been reported in the distribution of Barmer farmers' crop insurance claims for the kharif 2022 growing season, resulting in the crediting of their accounts with meagre sums like 2 paise, Re 1, and Rs 10 etc as compensation. Farmers in the region are extremely angry and disappointed as a result of this.
According to reports, the various farmers in Barmer insured nearly 10 lakh hectares of agricultural land with AIC. Owing to a severe drought in 2022, the farmers claimed compensation in accordance with the company's requirements for damage.
However, the company claimed that less than 25 per cent of sowing was reported in 252 Patwar mandals, according to the corporation in the Barmer area. Despite the fact that the corporation has issued claims totaling Rs 311 crore against a demand of Rs 600 crore, instructions to pay claims to the farmers were given four months ago.
In order to review the alleged irregularities, the CMD, CEO, and MED of the farm insurance business, as well as representatives from the finance ministry, the agriculture department of the Rajasthan government will attend a meeting on crop insurance claims held by the ministry of agriculture.
The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh raised the issue aggressively on Tuesday, claiming that farmers had been defrauded under the guise of claims. It added that the union will hold a protest along with the victim farmers on January 11.
The union claimed that through a contract with the AIC, the state government obtains crop insurance from farmers, and it is their responsibility to obtain the claim. Now that the state administration is abdicating its duty, it is blaming the Centre for the inconsistencies occurred in the process.
Previously, similar irregularities have emerged in Barmer in 2018, wherein farmers did not receive their insurance claims despite the state government's assurances.
