The MSP Guarantee Kisan Morcha (MSP GKM) has mounted pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to push for the enactment of a law to guarantee Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. The MSP GKM wrote to Modi as well as Gandhi in this regard, requesting the introduction and passage of the MSP bill in the next Parliament session to secure a guaranteed MSP for the farming community.
Around 250 farmers' organisations from 26 states and UTs gathered for a meeting at Gurudwara Shri Rakabganj Sahib in Delhi on Wednesday to voice their demands.
The MSP GKM, in its letter to PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi sought the introduction and passage of the MSP bill in the next Parliament session to secure a guaranteed MSP for the farming community.
The Janata Dal (United) and Telugu Desam Party, which are now part of the government, have in the past supported the MSP law.
Opposition parties including the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam too have agreed to the MSP law.
