Social Activist and farmer leader, Yogendra Yadav announced his resignation from the coordination committee of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha on 4 September.
Yadav, who played a crucial role in last year's year-long Kisan Andolan said that he would continue to remain as a "soldier" for the farmer union. Yadav's resignation letter was made public by the SKM at a press conference at Gurudwara Rakabganj in Delhi.
Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Yadav said in the letter that he will leave the coordination committee of the SKM, a grouping of approximately 40 farmer unions that led the farmers' agitation last year against the farm laws that have since been scrapped. "I will be unable to continue with the responsibility of being on the coordination committee for SKM.
To defeat the anti-farmer Modi government, the energies of all movements and opposition political parties must come together. Therefore, in addition to the farmers' movement, I am also in touch with other movements for this.
Keeping this priority in mind, Yadav said it will not be possible for me to do justice to the role of SKM Coordination Committee. He made his decision days after Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, met with members of the civil society to ask for their support and participation in the party's upcoming mega Bharat Jodo rally.
Being a part of "Jai Kisan Andolan," according to Yadav, he will always be an SKM "soldier."
Following his meeting with the grieving families of the BJP workers killed during the Lakhimpur violence in October of last year, the SKM suspended Yadav from the farmers' body.
