The Modi government had started the e-Shram portal for the workers of the unorganized sector. Within just 4 weeks of launch, more than 1 crore unorganized workers have registered on this portal.
The biggest advantage is that one who registers on the e-Shram portal gets a benefit of accidental insurance of Rs 2 lakhs for free. The benefit of accidental insurance is available under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).
After registering on the e-Shram portal, the first year’s premium is deposited by the labor ministry. Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana is a Government Accidental Policy (Personal Accident Insurance Scheme). This scheme covers the Accidental Death i.e. Death in Accident & Disability in the Accident for 1 year. This scheme is renewed each & every year.
There are 3 types of Benefits in this Scheme:

The first benefit pertains to accidental death.

If the insured person dies, the nominee will get Rs 2 lakh.

If someone loses both of his/hers hand, feet or eyes in an accident, he/she will still get the benefit of Rs 2 lakhs.

If he/she loses sight of one eye or is disabled in one leg or hand, then he/she will get a benefit of Rs 1 lakh.
Annual Premium of Rs 12

The premium for this scheme is Rs 12 per annum.

This scheme is auto-renewed each & every year or it has to be renewed.

The minimum age limit for this scheme is 18 years & the maximum age limit is 70 years.

If someone has multiple bank accounts, then he can take the advantage of this scheme from one account of any one of their bank.
38 crore Workers Across the Country

According to the data of different governments, there are about 38 crore workers in the unorganized sector across the country.

As the government wants to keep the correct database of these laborers.

There is absolutely free registration on this portal.

The registration can be done at any Common Service Center. Not only this but it can also be done in the regional office of the state government.
Eligibility for e-Shram card

Any worker in the unorganized sector can register themselves.

There are not any income-based criteria. However, the registered worker should not be an income taxpayer.
