e-PAN Card: Nirmala Sitharaman has formally launched the facility for instant allotment of PAN (on near to real time basis) in New Delhi on 28th May 2020. The Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs has made this facility available for those PAN applicants who possess a valid Aadhaar number & have a mobile number registered with it.
It is to be noted that the allotment process is paperless & an electronic PAN (e-PAN) is issued to the applicants free of cost. Here we will provide you the steps for applying for instant PAN online.

The applicant of instant PAN has to access the e-filing website of the Income Tax Department.

He or she must provide his/her valid Aadhaar number

Now, submit the OTP received on her/his Aadhaar registered mobile number

After successful completion of the process, a 15-digit acknowledgment number will be generated

Applicant can check the status of the request anytime by giving her/his valid Aadhaar number

After that e-PAN can be downloaded

Applicants can also receive the e-PAN on her/his email id, if it is registered with Aadhaar.
Earlier in the Union Budget, 2020, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced to start instant PAN facility shortly. In para 129 of the Budget Speech, Sitharaman had stated, “In the last Budget, I had introduced the inter-changeability of PAN and Aadhaar for which necessary rules were already notified.”
She added, to further ease the process of allotment of PAN, soon we will launch a system in which PAN will be instantly allotted online on the basis of Aadhaar where there will be no requirement for filling up of detailed application form.”
The ‘Beta version’ on trial basis started on 12th Feb 2020 on the e-filing website of Income Tax Department. From then 6,77,680 instant PANs are allotted with a turnaround time of about 10 minutes, till May 25, 2020.
