The planet is witnessing a rapid change in climate in recent years. There are extremes of rain and temperature and changes in weather and seasons. As a result, global food security is facing a big challenge.
Named after the great Indian scientist, Prof. MS Swaminathan, who played a pioneering role in saving India from food starvation during the late sixties through Green Revolution, the ICFA instituted MS Swaminathan Global Leadership Award for Sustainable Development to recognize the outstanding contribution of leaders towards global food security and sustainable development.
Accordingly, ICFA constituted a 15-member eminent Jury chaired by Prof. Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Ayog has finalized the name of Dr. William Dar, former Minister of Agriculture, Philippines and ex DG, ICRISAT for the 1st MS Swaminathan Global Award for Sustainable Development.
Dr. Dar is an outstanding scientist and administrator, who transformed ICRISAT into the premier institution under CGIAR with a massive impact worldwide towards sustainable development and global food security during his tenure as chief of ICRISAT. This award carries citations and a cash prize of INR one million.
This Award would be presented on November 10, 2022, in New Delhi. The program is part of the AgroWorld 2022 event, 09-11 Nov. Please find enclosed the detailed program and the list of Awardees.
