Dr. S. V. Suresha, Dean of Student Welfare, has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) in Bangalore recently. He contributes significantly to the overall development of students by organising a variety of co-curricular activities such as sports and games, cultural events, performing arts, fine arts, and literary events, among others.
“I am confident that University of Agricultural Sciences-Bangalore will meet the challenges of the farming sector in the coming years. The years ahead, I reckon, would be known as the decade of agriculture. The future is filled with possibilities - of new approaches, technologies and policies - towards sustainable food production for a healthy and happy world. It will be my vision and mission to ensure that the university leads from the front in realizing these possibilities and fulfilling its responsibilities in agricultural education, research, and outreach.”- Dr. S. Along with this, Professor Parameshgouda Linganagouda Patil named the new vice-chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad.
Thaawarchand Gehlot, the chancellor of the university and the governor of Karnataka, appointed Professor Patil for four years from the date of his appointment or until he reaches the age of 65, whichever comes first. The position had become vacant after the incumbent, MB Chetti, retired on June 30, 2022, at the age of 65.
Dr. R Basavarajappa, director of education at UAS Dharwad, was appointed vice-chancellor on July 1, 2022. Meanwhile, the search committee charged with shortlisting candidates for the position of V-C submitted its report to the government, recommending three candidates. Finally, the governor issued an order naming professor Patil to the position.
Patil received his primary education in Mantagani village, Savanur taluk, Haveri district, high school at Hosaritti, PUC at P C Jabin Science College, Hubballi, and B Sc (Agri), MSc (Agri), and PhD from UAS, Dharwad.
He was the director of research at UAS, Dharwad prior to his appointment as V-C. He has developed infrastructure and implemented a World Bank-funded project on Support for Improved Program Integration in Karnataka's Rainfed Areas through the government of Karnataka.
