Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana: To mark the 135th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Government of Madhya Pradesh launched the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana on April 14, 2025. This scheme aims to empower livestock farmers, particularly from the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities, and promote modern dairy farming in the state.
During the launch, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said, “The Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Scheme has been launched to enhance milk production in the state and to increase the income of farmers and livestock rearers.”
What is Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana?
Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana is a financial assistance scheme launched by the Government of Madhya Pradesh to promote dairy entrepreneurship. As part of the Mukhyamantri Udyami Krishak Yojana, this initiative aims to support the establishment of modern dairy units with 25 milch animals, either cows or buffaloes.
The scheme provides a combination of loan assistance, training support, and subsidies to help eligible beneficiaries set up sustainable dairy businesses. Its primary objective is to increase milk production in the state while empowering livestock farmers, entrepreneurs, and self-help groups through organized dairy farming.
Key Benefits of the Scheme
-
Loan assistance of up to Rs 42 lakh for setting up a dairy unit with 25 milch animals
-
Grant of Rs 1 lakh for training and preparatory expenses
-
Subsidy of 25% to 33% on the total project cost
-
Support extended to individuals, entrepreneurs, and self-help groups
-
Facility to expand up to 8 units (totaling 200 animals), with a minimum 2-year gap between additional loans
Subsidy Details
The scheme offers significant subsidies to reduce the financial burden on dairy entrepreneurs and make dairy farming more accessible and profitable. These subsidies are provided as a percentage of the total project cost and vary based on the beneficiary's category.
Category |
Subsidy Provided |
SC/ST Beneficiaries |
33% of the project cost |
Other Beneficiaries |
25% of the project cost |
This means that for a dairy unit costing Rs 42 lakh:
-
SC/ST beneficiaries can receive a subsidy of up to Rs 13.86 lakh.
-
Other beneficiaries can receive a subsidy of up to Rs 10.5 lakh.
The subsidy directly reduces the loan burden and encourages more participation from small and marginal farmers. It also ensures that dairy units are financially viable and sustainable in the long run.
Additionally, the subsidy is non-refundable and is adjusted against the loan, lowering the EMI and making repayment easier for the beneficiary.
