Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) to promote clean energy innovation and entrepreneurship. This partnership aims to accelerate advancements in sustainability and climate technology within India's manufacturing and energy sectors, with provisions for extension.
Under this initiative, early-stage startups focused on climate and clean energy technologies will receive essential support, including access to funding, mentorship, opportunities for pilot projects, and connections to the market. This initiative aligns with India's broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions and transitioning to a green economy.
A key highlight of the partnership is the launch of the Energy Transitions Innovation Challenge (ENTICE), a competitive platform offering rewards of up to USD 500,000 for startups that present impactful energy solutions. Investment support will also be provided through ecosystem partners such as Spectrum Impact and Avana Capital.
DPIIT will play a crucial role in linking these initiatives to the Startup India network, ensuring wide outreach and integration with existing government programs.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjiv, Joint Secretary at DPIIT, emphasized that India's leadership in climate action must be supported by strong entrepreneurship. He highlighted the potential of this MoU to help clean energy startups scale their innovations and contribute significantly to India's net-zero vision.
Saurabh Kumar, Vice President – India at GEAPP, described the partnership as a crucial step toward systemic change. He noted that combining GEAPP's international expertise with the reach of Startup India and the institutional support of DPIIT would create new pathways for clean energy entrepreneurship.
The MoU was officially signed by Dr. Sumeet Jarangal and Saurabh Kumar in the presence of senior officials from both sides, marking a significant milestone in India’s journey toward clean energy.
