The Diggi Subsidy Scheme is part of the Rajasthan government’s efforts to provide sustainable irrigation solutions to farmers. The term 'Diggi' refers to a water harvesting and storage pond or water tank created on a farmer’s land. Diggy is usually to collect canal or rainwater, which is then used for irrigation using modern techniques like sprinklers or drip systems. This initiative is especially important in semi-arid regions of Rajasthan where groundwater is either scarce or of poor quality. The scheme not only helps in water conservation but also ensures year-round irrigation, which is essential for crop rotation and increasing farm income.
Benefits of Diggi Subsidy Scheme:
-
Reduced dependence on unpredictable rainfall
-
Improved water availability for irrigation throughout the year
-
Promotion of micro-irrigation systems (sprinklers and drip) for efficient water use
-
Increased crop yields and farming sustainability
-
Financial support for water infrastructure development
