Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, engaged in a constructive dialogue with representatives of farmers' organizations in New Delhi on October 07, 2024. He highlighted that both state and central government-related issues were raised during the discussions, which he promised to consider with utmost seriousness. As the Agriculture minister, he pledged to ensure that the concerns of farmers are addressed, with the ultimate goal of advancing the agriculture sector and improving farmers' livelihoods.
The Minister highlighted the farmer-friendly approach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that such dialogues are crucial for understanding the grassroots problems faced by farmers. Rampal Singh, head of the Kisan Mahapanchayat, emphasized the need for continued focus on farmer-centric initiatives. He pointed to recent decisions, such as the flexible implementation of the Krishi Vikas Yojana, which allows states to tailor the scheme based on their specific needs, as a positive step forward.
Several key issues, including crop insurance, were also brought to the forefront. Chouhan assured the farmers that their concerns regarding the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana would be addressed with seriousness, reiterating that participation in the scheme should be voluntary for both loanee and non-loanee farmers.
Chouhan expressed his deep satisfaction in serving the farming community, likening it to a form of devotion. He reiterated his commitment to working towards the welfare of farmers, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are met through government action.
