Dharavi Slums is now a COVID-19 controlled success story

Feared of becoming a cluster bomb of COVID-19 cases to emerging as a success model, Mumbai's, Dharavi slum, has made considerable progress in its battle against the pandemic. The 2.5 square kilometre zone that packs about 6.5 lakh people, registered only one new case, crawling nearer toward flattening the curve even as the Maharashtra capital keeps on recording a consistent development in COVID-19 figures.

The 2.5 square kilometre zone that packs about 6.5 lakh people, registered only one new case, crawling nearer toward flattening the curve even as the Maharashtra capital keeps on recording a consistent development in COVID-19 figures.

With the newly reported one case, Dharavi now has only 2,335 coronavirus cases. The last time when it had recorded a single coronavirus case was on April 5. Dharavi a low-income area filled with narrow lanes and spaces crammed with small houses registered an impressive tally of recoveries. It has just 352 active cases; 1,734 people have been cured.

Dharavi, weeks prior, was viewed as the greatest danger to Mumbai's battle against the infection as confined living spaces and shared washrooms implied there was a little degree for social distancing which is considered as the most powerful weapon against the infection.

Be that as it may, authorizing a severe lockdown and obstructing the moment of people with the exception of basic requirements, appears to have paid off as the zone, for a considerable length of time, has been announcing generally low single-day coronavirus numbers.
