The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, is gearing up to host a pivotal workshop aimed at fortifying the groundwork for the upcoming 21st Livestock Census. Scheduled to be held on June 25, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, this important event will be attended by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh as the chief guest. The workshop will also see the presence of Ministers of State Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel and George Kurian, along with DAHD Secretary Alka Upadhyaya.
The primary objectives of the workshop are multifaceted, aiming to equip State and Union Territory officers with essential tools and strategies necessary for the efficient conduct of the 21st Livestock Census. Key among these tools is a specially designed mobile application and software, integral to enhancing the accuracy and effectiveness of data collection across the country. Participants will undergo comprehensive training sessions on data collation methodologies and will receive insights into various registered breeds critical for robust policy formulation and implementation in the Animal Husbandry sector.
Since its inception in 1919, the Livestock Census has been a cornerstone exercise conducted every five years, pivotal in shaping national policies and programs in the sector. This comprehensive door-to-door survey meticulously gathers data on domesticated animals and birds nationwide, essential for informed decision-making.
The 21st Livestock Census, slated to take place between September to December 2024, marks a significant advancement with the incorporation of mobile technology for data collection and transmission. This leap promises heightened accuracy and efficiency, encompassing all villages and urban wards across India.
The workshop agenda will commence with an inaugural ceremony, followed by detailed sessions on the Census methodology, intensive training on the mobile application and software dashboard, and an interactive open house discussion to address participant queries and concerns.
Key dignitaries expected to attend include Union Ministers of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel and George Kurian, along with DAHD Secretary Alka Upadhyaya, senior officers from DAHD, Principal Secretaries/Secretaries from States and Union Territories, members of the Technical Committee for the 21st Livestock Census, and the Registrar General of India.
