Delhi Weather: IMD Predicts Rain, Thunderstorms from May 1, Relief from Heatwave Likely

Delhi’s weather is set to see a brief dip in temperatures over the next few days, with strong winds and light rainfall expected. The shift is linked to an active western disturbance, bringing some relief from the ongoing dry heat and improving air quality.

Delhi Weather: After days of dry and warm weather, Delhi is set to experience a change starting May 1, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts thunderstorms, gusty winds, and light rain across the city. This anticipated rainfall is expected to provide much-needed relief from the heat and improve the overall air quality in the capital.

Currently, the maximum temperature in Delhi has been fluctuating between 39 and 40 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature has remained around 24°C. However, a decrease of 2–3 degrees Celsius in daytime temperatures is expected over the coming days, offering some respite from the ongoing heat.

On April 30, the weather is likely to remain mostly clear with strong surface winds during the afternoon and evening hours. Starting May 1, Delhi is predicted to see generally cloudy skies with light rain or drizzle. Thunderstorms, lightning, and dust storms are also expected, with wind speeds reaching 30 to 40 km/h and gusts up to 50 km/h on May 1 and 2.

Maximum temperatures during this period are expected to be slightly below normal, ranging from 36 to 38°C, while minimum temperatures are predicted to be between 25 and 27°C. Surface winds will primarily come from the southeast, increasing in strength during the evening and night. Meteorologists attribute this change in weather to an active western disturbance affecting parts of northwest India.

The capital is likely to avoid the severe heatwave conditions currently impacting regions like Rajasthan and Gujarat. However, temporary weather fluctuations, such as sudden gusts, overcast skies, and brief showers, are expected to occur over the next few days.

This change in weather is expected to bring welcome relief from the dry heat that has gripped the city throughout April. Residents can look forward to a slightly cooler and breezier start to May, although they should remain alert to the possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds.
