The national capital witnesses light showers early morning on Wednesday, bringing down the normal temperature. This is consistent with projections made by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which also predicted snowfall in parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
One video was shared of rainfall near Connaught Place at Mandi House and Feroz Shah Road. Today, the IMD predicts moderate rain and winds with speeds ranging from 20 to 40 kilometers per hour in isolated areas of Delhi.
The IMD has predicted rain in at least 15 states and union territories, the most of which are in north India, on Wednesday and Thursday. It is also expected to rain in West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, and north Odisha on February 9 and 10.
The rainfall forecast is based on a western disturbance. "The induced cyclonic circulation lies over West Rajasthan and neighborhood in lower tropospheric levels," said the IMD on Monday.
According to the Met Department, "a steady rise in minimum temperatures of 2-4 degree Celsius is highly expected over most parts of northwest, central, and west India over the next 3 days, followed by a gradual fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius during the next two days."
Meanwhile, most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, except Srinagar, received fresh snowfall on Monday. Gulmarg, Kupwara and Pahalgam received moderate snowfall, said officials.
Kashmir is now under the influence of a 20-day 'Chillai-Khurd' (little cold) that began after the 40-day 'Chilla-i-Kalan' (winter's harshest phase) concluded on January 31.
Snowfall is also expected in high-altitude parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
IMD further stated that dense fog conditions are very likely in isolated/some sections of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, UP, north Rajasthan, Assam-Meghalaya, and Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura during the night/morning hours.
Rainfall is expected in several other states, primarily in the north, according to the Met. Today, fairly widespread rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected across Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, and isolated rain over East Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan (February 9).
A solitary hailstorm is possible across West Uttar Pradesh.
The eastern part of the country is likely to experience rain too. Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, and north Odisha on February 9 and 10.
