Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana on April 28, 2025, at Thyagaraj Stadium. This scheme aims to provide free medical treatment worth up to Rs 10 lakh annually to senior citizens aged 70 and above.
The program combines Rs 5 lakh coverage from the central government's Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) with an additional Rs 5 lakh from the Delhi government, ensuring comprehensive healthcare support for the elderly.
During the launch event, CM Gupta, along with Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, distributed the first Vay Vandana cards to beneficiaries. These cards will enable seniors to access cashless treatment at a network of empaneled hospitals, covering a wide range of medical services. The scheme is designed to alleviate the financial burden of healthcare for the elderly, providing them with timely and quality medical care.
In her address, CM Gupta emphasized the government's commitment to the welfare of senior citizens, stating that serving this demographic is a top priority. She noted that the scheme reflects the government's respect and gratitude toward senior citizens, ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve.
Additionally, the Vay Vandana Yojana includes a unique health card for each registered senior citizen, which will securely store their complete health records, information about regular health check-ups, and emergency service details. This digital record is intended to streamline healthcare services and ensure that senior citizens receive personalized and efficient medical attention.
