Delhi Budget 2024: Govt to Provide Rs 1000 Per Month to Every Woman Above 18 Years

Delhi's Finance Minister, Atishi Marlena, presented the much-anticipated budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, totalling a substantial Rs 76,000 crore on March 04, 2024. The budget was presented amid the ongoing Budget Session of the Delhi Assembly, which commenced on February 15 and is scheduled for extension until March 8. The government announced to provide Rs 1,000 per month to every woman aged 18 years and above.

In alignment with its longstanding priorities, the Delhi government's budget maintains a focus on important sectors such as education, health, power, and infrastructure. Significantly, a substantial allocation of Rs 16,396 crore has been earmarked for the education sector, underscoring the government's commitment to fostering educational excellence.

Furthermore, the health sector receives a notable allocation of Rs 8,685 crore, emphasizing the significance of accessible and quality healthcare services for the citizens of Delhi. She also announced an outlay of Rs 510 crore for e-buses and Rs 500 crore for Delhi Metro.

Empowering Women through Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana

A major highlight of the budget includes the introduction of the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana, aimed at empowering women across the capital. Under this initiative, the government pledges to provide Rs 1,000 per month to every woman aged 18 years and above. With an allocated budget of Rs 2000 crore, this scheme reflects the administration's dedication to promoting gender equality and socio-economic empowerment.

Reflecting on the previous fiscal year, the 2023 budget, spearheaded by then Finance Minister Kailash Gehlot, was unveiled against the backdrop of significant developments, including the arrest of former finance minister Manish Sisodia in the excise policy case. Themed around the aspiration of a ‘Clean, beautiful, and modern’ Delhi, the 2023 budget totalled Rs 78,800 crore, with a notable provision of Rs 21,000 crore allocated for enhancing the city's infrastructure.

Looking ahead, the Aam Aadmi Party government envisions a comprehensive roadmap for infrastructure development. Minister Atishi articulated plans for the construction of 1,000 kilometers of roads in the villages of the Capital, alongside initiatives to eliminate dark spots across the city.
