At a meeting held in Himachal Pradesh, lead by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, it was brought to notice that as many as 86 people have been tested positive for swine flu from the 270 tested in the State.
The minister instructed health officials to ensure effective steps for monitoring and curbing the H1N1 virus. The chief minister said the people must be sensitized about the symptoms, cause and treatment of Swine Flu so that immediate and timely treatment could be provided.
He mentioned that special medical teams must be sent to areas where the highest numbers of cases are reported.
Speaking about the arrangements made for the people suffering from swine flu, Thakur said that a 12-bed isolation ward has been set up at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla and an ICU of four beds has been added to the existing infrastructure. He added that a stock of 8000 capsules is kept at IGMC to meet any unanticipated impact of swine flu virus.
Swine Flu outbreak in Rajasthan proved to be deadly, killing around 76 people in the State. Jodhpur had been the worst affected. As of January 27, 4571 confirmed cases of swine flu and 169 cases from H1N1 have been reported in the country.
According to the National Health Scheme (publicly funded health scheme in England), symptoms of Swine flu include:
- Sudden fever
- Body ache
- Feeling tired or exhausted
- A dry cough
- A sore throat
- Headache
- Difficulty in sleeping
- Loss of appetite
- Diarrhea and stomach pain
- Nausea and vomiting
