Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community College (DDUCC), a constituent college of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) located at the Wahiajer campus, Meghalaya recently hosted a groundbreaking workshop titled “Modern Agriculture: Embracing Organic and Integrated Farming.” The event, which took place on 27 March 2024, aimed to advocate sustainable agricultural practices and equip farmers with the latest advancements in farming techniques.
The workshop’s inaugural ceremony saw the presence of esteemed dignitaries, with Prof. P.S. Shukla, Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, gracing the occasion as the chief guest. Accompanying him was Trinity Saioo, a recipient of the Padmashree Award 2020 for her outstanding contributions to Turmeric Farming, who served as the Guest of Honour. The event attracted 200 farmers and agricultural enthusiasts eager to explore into the sustainable farming practices.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. P.S. Shukla underscored the essential role of agriculture in the nation’s development, stressing the need to embrace organic farming practices for ensuring environmental sustainability. He commended DDUCC for its proactive stance in organizing skill training programs and assured continued support for the college’s activities aimed at empowering youth and farmers alike. Trinity Saioo echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of integrating various agricultural activities to boost productivity and resilience.

Prof. S.M. Sungoh, Acting Principal of DDUCC, shed light on the significance of merging modern technology with organic and integrated farming practices to maximize efficiency. Dr. F.R.
