On Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated in its latest advisory that Cyclone Asani, which formed over the southeast portions of the Bay of Bengal, turned into a severe cyclone. The cyclonic storm is predicted to weaken over the next 24 hours as it approaches the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coast.
It is unlikely to reach landfall, although it might pass across these states' coastal districts in the next two days.
According to the IMD, heavy rain is expected throughout coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thunderstorms, lightning, and light rain are expected in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Sikkim until May 12 as a consequence of the Bay of Bengal storm.
Disaster management teams, police, and KMC personnel in West Bengal have been instructed to remain vigilant. At strategic sites, boats have been deployed. The SDRF and NDRF, as well as the Coast Guard and Navy, have been notified.
Cyclone Asani is Likely to Cause Heavy Rainfall in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh
May 10th: From the evening of May 10th, light to moderate rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations is anticipated across the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh and heavy rainfall at isolated pockets is anticipated over the coastal Odisha.
May 11th: Light to moderate rainfall is predicted across north coastal Andhra Pradesh, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas whereas the Coastal regions of Odisha and the Coastline of West Bengal are likely to experience heavy rainfall.
May 12th: Over coastal portions of Odisha and West Bengal, light to moderate rainfall is expected in a few places, with severe rainfall in isolated spots.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert; Temperature Could Reach 44 Degrees
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced a yellow alert for a severe heatwave in Delhi, with temperatures expected to reach 44 degrees Celsius by Wednesday.
According to meteorological experts, the heatwave could last till May 15, since a cooling weather system is unlikely to influence northwestern regions of India in the upcoming week.
The increase in humidity levels can cause discomfort, according to Mahesh Palawat, Vice President (Meteorology and Climate Change), Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency.
