At the time when Central and State Governments has imposed lockdown in over 90 districts across 17 states & 5 Union Territories, look what WHO has to say. Amid the covid-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) has given some serious advice against the lockdowns. It argued that the deadly virus may resurge later if efficient public health measures were not taken simultaneously.

As per the WHO top emergency expert, Mike Ryan, countries can`t merely lock down themselves to fight the covid-19 outbreak. There is need of public health measures to avoid a resurgence of the virus later on.”

He further added, "What we really need to focus on is finding those who are sick, those who have the virus, & isolate them, find their contacts and isolate them. The danger right now with the lockdowns is if we don`t put in place the strong public health measures now, when those movement restrictions & lockdowns are lifted, the danger is the disease will jump back up."

What will be open/close in lockdown?

  • Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has imposed a lockdown in Delhi from 6am today i.e. 23rd March to the midnight of March 31, to fight the covid-19 outbreak.

  • Grocery shops, chemists, dairies & petrol pumps will remain open, said the Chief Minister. All essential services like medical services will function.

  • No public transport services, such as private buses, autos and e-rickshaws, will be working. Only 25% of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus fleet will be working to carry people delivering essential services.

  • No document or proof will be sought from people if they say that they are out on streets to provide or avail any essential service, the CM added.

  • Delhi Metro, along with other metro services across the country, will be suspended till March 31.
