Corteva Agriscience recently released the Global Food Security Index 2019, a report developed by The Economist Intelligence Unit. The report considers the key issues of affordability, availability, and quality across a set of 113 countries. It also presents a dynamic quantitative and qualitative benchmarking model that is constructed from 34 unique indicators measuring the catalysts of food security across both developing and developed nations.
The index gives clear insights into the unique challenges faced by the food system in five regions - Africa/Middle East, Asia Pacific, Europe, Central, and South America, and North America - and suggests recommendations to battle the threats of climate change to improve food security.
Global Food Security Index (GFSI 2019) is the first index to examine food security comprehensively across these three internationally established dimensions. The distinct feature of this index is that it looks beyond hunger reach to the conclusion regarding food insecurity. It includes an adjustment factor on natural resources and resilience. It also examines a country’s exposure to the severe impacts of climate change, its vulnerability to natural resources, and how the country can adapt to these risks.
