Counting of votes for Madhya Pradesh election has begun at 8 am on Tuesday. The results of election will be declared today. There is neck to neck fight between BJP and Congress.
The Election Commission of India trends coming in from Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh show Congress leading on 58 seats and the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leading on 17 seats as of 1.20 pm in the former, while the Congress is leading on 108 seats and the BJP is leading on 111 seats in the latter. Trends show Congress taking a lead over the BJP in Chhattisgarh, while Madhya Pradesh remains a close call between the two parties. The BJP, which has been in power in both states for three successive terms, could suffer upsets this time and cede control over the state governments. The Congress, on the other hand, seems to have made some remarkable gains in the Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Assemblies. In Chhattisgarh, the Congress has crossed the halfway-mark. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who has been in power since 2005, was ahead in the Budhni Assembly constituency, according to trends. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh had a narrow lead in the Rajnandga on constituency.
