Chhath Puja this year started on Thursday (October 28), and today devotees are preparing for the second day 'Kharna' of the four-day festival. Know the sunrise and sunset timings, shubh muhurat, rules, and rituals to be followed.
Chhath Puja is also known as Shashti, Chhath, Chhathi, Chhath Parv, Dala Puja, and Dala Chhath - starts with Nahay Khay and ends with Usha Arghya. Kharna is observed on the second day of Chhath.
Women perform an arduous Nirjala vrat during Chhath, and devotees pray to Lord Surya (the Sun God) and Chhathi Mata for the well-being, development, and prosperity of their family and children. Chhath is celebrated in the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, as well as Nepal. Though the Chhath fast is traditionally observed by women, men can also participate.

The second day of Chhath is Kharna. This year, it falls on October 29. According to Drik Panchang, the Chaturthi will begin at 08:13 am, Panchami will be at 05:49 am on October 30, and the Brahma Muhurat will last from 05:02 am to 05:52 am on October 29.

According to Drik Panchang, on the day of Kharna, the sunrise will happen at 06:43 am on October 29, and the sunset will take place at 06:04 pm on October 29.
Chhath Puja 2022 Day 2: Rituals & Rules
Devotees rise early on this day to prepare a prasad of Gud (jaggery) Ki Kheer made with jaggery and Arwa chawal. During the Puja, devotees also serve seasonal fruits and vegetables as prasad. They also observe an exhausting nirjala vrat (no water fasting) from sunrise to sunset and offer the first Arghya of Chhath to the rising sun. Only after offering the prasad to the Sun God can devotees break their fast. Then they eat prasad and begin the 36-hour nirjala vrat for the third day. The person observing the fast cooks the entire prasad and serves it as bhog to the diety, according to the rituals.

On Kharna, the second day of Chhath, devotees prepare a special prasad known as Gud (jaggery) Ki Kheer. This dish is made with jaggery, milk, and Arwa chawal. This Kheer, also known as Rasiya, is prepared with mango wood and a clay stove.
