In India, the price of petrol and diesel has remained unchanged for the past 193 days in a row. As a result, there has been some relief for the average person in terms of inflation.
On the global market, the cost of crude oil has decreased. WTI crude is now priced at $78 per barrel, while Brent crude is now priced at $85 per barrel.
The government decreased the excise tax on petrol and diesel earlier on May 21. The excise duty on petrol and diesel was subsequently decreased by Rs. 8 per liter. And since, the cost of petrol and diesel has decreased. After that, the price of diesel in the country decreased by Rs 9.50 and the price of petrol by Rs 7 per liter. The governments of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Kerala similarly lowered the VAT on diesel and petrol following the announcement by the Center.
In Delhi, the cost of petrol is currently Rs 96.72 a liter, while the price of diesel is Rs 89.62 per liter. In Mumbai, a liter of petrol costs Rs 106.31, and a liter of diesel costs Rs 94.27. Diesel costs Rs 92.76 and petrol Rs 106.03 per liter in Kolkata. On contrary, Chennai has seen prices for petrol and diesel per liter drop to Rs 102.63 and Rs 94.24, respectively.

In the Rajasthan districts of Ganganagar and Hanumangarh, petrol and diesel are offered at the highest prices. Diesel costs Rs 98.24 per liter and petrol costs Rs 113.48 per liter in Ganganagar. While diesel costs Rs 97.39 per liter and petrol costs Rs 112.54 in the Hanumangarh district.

In India, Port Blair has the lowest prices for both petrol and diesel, with the former costing Rs. 84.10 a liter and the latter Rs. 79.74.
