Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) on Monday (September 01, 2025) held a high-level meeting with Food Secretaries from States and Union Territories, along with senior officials of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), to finalise procurement plans for the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2025–26. The meeting was chaired by DFPD Secretary Sanjeev Chopra in New Delhi.

During the session, the government has set a target of 463.50 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for paddy procurement, calculated in terms of rice, while the target for coarse grains and millets (Shree Anna) has been fixed at 19.19 LMT. The meeting also reviewed several key initiatives aimed at modernizing procurement and distribution systems. These include web-based processing of milling requests, a mobile app for Joint Physical Verification of Paddy, Smart PDS, Anna Mitra, and the implementation of Cash Credit Limits for purchasing jute bags.

Other initiatives such as Depot Darpan, SCAN Portal for processing food subsidy bills, improved storage infrastructure, and the new rice milling transformation scheme, allowing only 10% broken rice, were also highlighted.

Senior officials, including Principal Secretaries and Secretaries (Food) from States and UTs, along with the Chairman and Managing Director of FCI, participated in the meeting.
