Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has approved a massive procurement plan worth Rs 15,095.83 crore for pulses and oilseeds in Telangana, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh for the Kharif 2025–26 season.
The decision, taken during a high-level virtual meeting with agriculture ministers and senior officials of these states, aims to secure farmers’ incomes and stabilise prices under the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) and other related schemes.
In Telangana, the government has approved the procurement of 4,430 metric tonnes (MT) of moong (green gram), covering 25% of the state’s total production under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), at a cost of Rs 38.44 crore. The plan also includes 100% procurement of urad (black gram) and 25% procurement of soybean to provide assured returns to farmers. Odisha will witness the procurement of 18,470 MT of arhar (red gram), representing 100% of its production, with an allocation of Rs 147.76 crore under PSS.
Maharashtra, one of the largest pulse and oilseed producers, will benefit from an extensive procurement drive. The Union Minister has approved 33,000 MT of moong worth Rs 289.34 crore, 3,25,680 MT of urad worth Rs 2,540.30 crore, and 18,50,700 MT of soybean worth Rs 9,860.53 crore under PSS.
For Madhya Pradesh, a key soybean-producing state, the government has sanctioned procurement of 22,21,632 MT of soybean under the Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS), with a financial implication of Rs 1,775.53 crore.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that these approvals will ensure farmers receive fair prices for their produce while protecting them from market volatility. He emphasised that this move aligns with the vision of building an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-reliant India), where the agricultural sector plays a central role in strengthening rural livelihoods and the national economy.
Union Minister also highlighted that the government has arranged for 100% procurement of tur, urad, and masoor through NAFED and NCCF, ensuring smooth operations and timely payments to farmers. He directed officials to maintain strict monitoring so that the direct benefits of procurement reach farmers without any delay.
Chouhan reiterated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government remains committed to enhancing farmers’ income, dignity, and welfare. The record-scale procurement under PSS and PDPS, he said, will boost agricultural production, ensure price stability, and reinforce India’s path toward self-reliance in pulses and oilseeds.
