Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) and P.V. Narsimha Rao Telangana Veterinary University (PVNRTVU), Hyderabad, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaborative research in animal health and veterinary sciences. The agreement, aimed at combining the strengths of Ayurveda with modern veterinary science, is expected to generate innovative solutions for livestock welfare, productivity, and sustainable animal healthcare.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Goli Penchala Prasad, Assistant Director In-charge of CCRAS–National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH), and Prof. A. Saratchandra Amaravati, Registrar of PVNRTVU.

Under this collaboration, both institutions will undertake joint research projects in areas such as translational research, livestock management and nutrition, and the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic tools for animals. The agreement also allows shared use of research facilities and infrastructure, with oversight by a Joint Coordination Committee to ensure smooth execution.

A major highlight of the MoU is the exchange of students and faculty. CCRAS scientists may be appointed as adjunct faculty or guides for postgraduate and doctoral research at PVNRTVU, while veterinary students will have opportunities to participate in lectures, demonstrations, and project work at CCRAS laboratories.

Undergraduate students will also be introduced to research in food sciences, methodologies, and the “One Health” concept, which links human, animal, and environmental health.

The agreement further provides that research findings will be published in open-access journals with due credit to contributors from both sides. Intellectual property generated through joint projects will be co-owned, with financial benefits shared proportionally.

Valid for five years, this non-financial MoU marks a significant step toward integrating traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern veterinary science. It is expected to open new pathways in animal healthcare, improve livestock productivity, and offer sustainable solutions for the agricultural and veterinary sectors.

The signing ceremony was attended by PVNRTVU Vice-Chancellor Prof. M. Gnana Prakash, CCRAS Deputy Director-General Dr. Narayanam Srikanth, along with senior faculty members and officials from both institutions.
