The BTC Agriculture Department successfully organized a three-day Farmers' Fair at Dakma, Kokrajhar, Assam as part of the annual session of the Sadao Assam Boro Chhatra Sangha. The event attracted a wide range of farmers from five districts of BTC (Bodoland Territorial Region) and neighboring areas, creating an excellent platform for agricultural exchange and education.
The fair was attended by two distinguished farmers, Akbar Ali Ahmed and Harkanta Basumatari, who were both winners of the Millionaire Farmer of India (MFOI) Awards 2024. The two were honored for their contributions to the agricultural community, and their participation served as an inspiration to the attendees.
Over the course of the fair, participants received valuable training on a variety of agricultural practices. Resource persons conducted sessions on modern farming techniques, agricultural trade, and beekeeping. Topics such as drip irrigation, solar-powered agriculture, intercropping, and multilayer farming were also featured, highlighting innovative practices that can increase crop yields and improve farm sustainability.
A particular highlight of the fair was the growing interest among farmers in cultivating COCA and BLACK RICE. Many attendees expressed curiosity about the potential of these crops, with discussions focused on their benefits and market opportunities.
Phanindra Brahma, the BTC Agriculture Director and organizer of the event, emphasized the importance of the fair in raising awareness about new agricultural technologies and practices. "The primary objective of this fair is to showcase the potential of agriculture, introduce new farming methods, and educate farmers about techniques that can increase productivity while reducing costs," Brahma explained.
The fair was a significant step towards empowering farmers with knowledge and resources to improve their agricultural practices, contributing to the development of a more sustainable and prosperous agricultural sector in the region.
