Months before the Lok Sabha elections, Ajay Maken has resigned as Delhi Congress Chief, citing health issues. Maken’s resignation was accepted by the President of Congress party Rahul Gandhi today (4th January).
Ajay Maken while taking to Twitter said, “I would like to express thanks to the Delhi Congress workers, the media who provided coverage to the party and our party head Rahul Gandhi for his love and support ever since I took charge of the state unit after the Assembly polls in 2015.”
Party chief Rahul Gandhi along with in-charge of Delhi Congress party affairs P C Chacko held meeting with Ajay Maken on Thursday evening (3rd January), according to media sources.
In April 2018, Ajay Maken had presented his resignation after the party’s defeat in the municipal elections. However, the party refused to accept his resignation.
Later in the month of September, as per Congress sources, Maken had again expressed his wish to quit from his role due to health reasons. He also went to Singapore to get treatment for an incapacitating back pain.
However, Chacko denying reports of Maken’s resignation told The Indian Express that “Ajay Maken has not stepped down. He has informed me as well as Congress president Rahul Gandhi that he has some health issues and has gone for a health check-up. He will be back on 22nd September.”
