According to food ordering and delivery company Swiggy, the modest Samosa is India's "most binged snack" of 2021, with approximately 50 lakh orders, topping the list of the most ordered meal of the year. According to Swiggy's sixth annual 'StatEATstics report,' Pav Bhaji and Gulab Jamun came in second and third place, respectively, with 21 lakh orders each.
The popularity of the "Desi Samosa" was demonstrated by the fact that it was ordered "six times more than chicken wings”.
Most Binged Snack of the Year
"With roughly 5 million orders on Swiggy, the Samosa was the most binged food of the year," it stated in a statement. The StatEATstics research declared biryani to be the unchallenged champion of India's top dishes in 2021, topping the lists for the sixth year in a row.
"In 2020, India bought 90 Biryanis every minute, and in 2021, India ordered 115 Biryanis per minute or 2 Biryani’s per second," Swiggy stated, noting that chicken biryani was ordered 4.3 times more than vegetarian biryani.
It was also revealed that over 4.25 lakh new customers made their Swiggy debut by ordering a chicken biryani.
The StatEATstics report is based on the orders received by Swiggy for the food delivery, grocery on Instamart, pick up & drop service Swiggy Genie and HealthHub platforms between January & December 2021. The grocery platform Instamart delivered over 28 million packs of fruits & vegetables alone in the year 2021.
