Every year on March 22, Bihar Diwas is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. It commemorates the establishment of the state by the Britishers in 1912 when the state was formed out of the Bengal Presidency.
All state and national government offices and corporations, as well as schools, are closed on Bihar Diwas. Apart from Bihar, the Bihari Diaspora celebrates it in other states and countries as well.
Bihar is all set to start the celebrations. Famous artists will give riveting performances during the three-day event, which begins on Tuesday at the huge Gandhi Maidan and the SK Memorial Hall. To mark the anniversary, blue lights are decorating government and private buildings.
An iconic list of artists is set to perform for Bihar Diwas including Sukhwinder Singh, Rekha Bhardwaj, Kailash Kher, Mahmood Farooqui, Dastan Go (storyteller) Mahmood Farooqui; ghazal singers Ahmed Husain, Mohammed Husain; kathak dancers Prachi Pallavi Sah and Lavanya Raj; folk singers Ranjana Jha, Nitu Kumari Nutan; fusion by Luv Bandish Bliss.
The Consul General of India in Johannesburg, Anju Ranjan, the High Commissioner of India, Jaideep Sarkar, Anil Suklal, and the SA Sherpa of International Relations and Cooperation will all speak on the first day of the three-day celebration.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will kick off the three-day celebration, with Governor Phagu Chauhan serving as the chief guest for the last event (on Thursday).
Both events will take place in Gandhi Maidan. Residents will be able to taste various cuisines at a food hall set up by the tourism department during the event. On the model of Delhi Haat, the state education department and the National Book Trust (NBT) have set up book stalls at Patna Haat Pavillion.
Showcasing their art and talent, craftsmen from all around the state will display their handcraft and handloom products at the event. The environment and forest departments will put on a laser display on Jal-Jiwan-Hariyali.
The tourism department will hold a digital exhibition, and the water resource department will put on a show on rivers.
Aside from that, there will be a dog show put on by BMP Patna and a drone exhibition this year, both of which will be new to the public.
History of Bihar Diwas
On March 22, 1912, the British Empire awarded Bihar separate statehood. With the exception of the past two years, when the celebrations were cancelled owing to the Covid epidemic, Bihar Day has transcended state, national, and international borders.
The state has its own anthem now called the Bihar Gaurav Gaan. 'Jal Jiwan Hariyali' is the theme of this year's Bihar Diwas.
Agriculture in Bihar
Bihar is one of India's most productive agricultural states, with over 80% of the people involved in agriculture.
The theme of this year's Bihar Diwas appears to be a tribute to the farmer community, as Bihar is India's fourth greatest producer of vegetables and eighth-largest producer of fruits.
