The 3 controversial farm laws that gave rise to massive farmer protests across the country will be withdrawn, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday while addressing the nation at 9 am.
Modi Government has made a U- turn on the Guru Purab festival, when Sikhism founder Guru Nanak's birthday is celebrated.
Pm Modi while addressing the Nation "We have decided to repeal the farm laws. Maybe something was lacking in our tapasya, which is why we could not convince some farmers about the laws. But today is Prakash Parv, not the time to blame anyone. Today, I want to tell the country that we have decided to repeal the three farm laws."
He said that the govt has formed a committee, comprising centre, agri experts and farmers, to work on benefits for crop growers.
Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have been protesting on Delhi borders since November 2020, demanding that the laws be withdrawn and finally there wishes have been accepted by the centre.
Comments & Reaction of Industry people and Political leaders
Dr Kalyan Goswami, Director General, Agro Chem Federation of India (ACFI) said, "We ACFI whole heartedly welcome the Government's decision to repeal the 3 Farm Laws, which would help to break the ongoing impasse. We also appreciate the Prime Minister for his commitment to provide good quality seeds to the farmers, easy claim for damages and offering right price to the farmers for their produce. While the budget allocation on Agriculture has increased by 5 times since 2014, we expect the financial situation of the farmers to improve steadily".
