Amid the growing cases of black fungus infection across the country, a case of Yellow Fungus infection has been reported in Delhi NCR and also in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, which is now considered more dangerous than black fungus & white fungus.

The man, who recovered from COVID-19 in Ghaziabad, has been diagnosed with three types of fungal infection - black, white and yellow, which was detected through the endoscopy, said Dr BP Tyagi, an ENT specialist.

Symptoms of Yellow Fungus:

Yellow fungus is a fatal disease as it begins internally and because of which, it is important that you seek medical treatment as soon as you notice any of the following symptoms:

  • Low Appetite and Weight Loss

  • Dullness or Lethargy

  • In serious cases, formation and leakage of pus and slow healing wound

  • Malnutrition and Organ Failure

  • Sunken Eyes due to Eventual Necrosis

Major Causes of Yellow fungus:

  • The main cause of Yellow fungus infection is the practice of bad hygiene. It is essential to regularly clean out the enclosure around your home and keep it as clean as possible. Remove old foods and fecal matter as soon as possible to curtail the growth of bacteria and fungus.

  • Too much humidity inside home can promote the growth of bacteria and fungus therefore, it is also important to maintain the correct level of humidity. For this, you should measure the humidity level at all times and the right humidity level is 30% to 40%. It is easier to handle low humidity than having an excessive amount of moisture.

So the causes of Yellow Fungus can range from high humidity to old food, however, the primary cause is said to be poor hygiene practice. Getting rid of old foods, proper disposal of faeces can prevent the bacteria and fungus from increasing. Humidity in a closed space (house or office) should not be above the 30- 40% range.

Treatment of Yellow Fungus:

If caught at the right time, Yellow Fungus is treatable as is the case of the man who has been tested for the Yellow Fungus infection in Ghaziabad. Amphotericin B injection, which is a broad spectrum antifungal drug, is used in the treatment of Yellow Fungus.
