With a special 12-digit number, an Aadhaar Card is an important document that is necessary for practically all official work in India.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) issues Aadhaar to citizens without charge, yet many people tend to make fake Aadhaar in an effort to deceive others.
Even every now and then, criminals would provide false Aadhaar cards to people. They even charge money for such fake Aadhar. Many people make fake Aadhaar as well.
But you can easily check the authenticity of your Aadhar by following the steps mentioned below:
1. Open a web browser and then the UIDAI official site (uidai.gov.in/)
2. Go to my Aadhaar section and click on Aadhaar services
3. Click the Aadhaar Verification tab
4. Now on the next page enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and Captcha
5. Click on the ‘Proceed and Verify Aadhaar’ option.
6. And you can now see the details of the Aadhaar number and verify if they are genuine or now
Earlier in March, UIDAI warned businesses accepting Aadhaar as identification to watch out for scammers and providing a framework for checking the submitted Aadhaar card. "Any Aadhaar can be checked both online and offline. Scan the QR code for the e-Aadhaar, #Aadhaar letter, or #AadhaarPVCcard to validate offline. Enter the 12-digit Aadhaar on the link https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/verifyAadhaar to check online" it advised.
The UIDAI also suggested using "Aadhaar" verification as an additional check for residents, such as when hiring a worker, domestic helper, driver, or tenant.
Because an Aadhaar comprises a person's name, date of birth, address, and mobile number, it is more likely to be misused by scammers. Additionally, the UIDAI has urged Aadhaar holders to maintain their email address and mobile number updated.
