If you violate traffic rules from tomorrow, i.e. 1st September 2019 then you will have to pay a hefty amount for it.
The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari while informing public about the new traffic norms & fines told that "Higher penalties for traffic violations are being issued for public interest. Increased penalties will help in reducing accidents as people will become more careful". He added that "The existing fines are decades-old which are required to change".
According to the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, if a person is caught driving without license then he would have to Rs. 5,000 against previous fine of Rs. 500. In the same way, if anyone is caught drinking & driving, the fine would be Rs. 10,000 instead of Rs. 2,000. It also suggests that the amount of traffic violation fines should be increased at the rate of 10% per year.
If anybody does not give way to emergency services such as ambulance then he or she will have to shell out a penalty of Rs. 10,000. If a person is caught without wearing a helmet or a seat belt then he /she will be fined Rs. 1,000 instead of the previous Rs. 100.

Gadkari said the Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill 2019 cleared in parliament in the last session basically aims to make the roads safer for travelers. For this the government is working towards improving the quality of roads as well as the engineering used in building them.
Road offences like overloading, drink driving, riding without a helmet or license will draw bigger penalties from tomorrow hence people need to be careful about it. Official data says that in 2017 there have been more than 1.5 lakh accident-related deaths across India.
