The number of holidays may vary by state, as not all festivals are observed nationwide. However, holidays like Labour Day and Buddha Purnima are widely recognized across much of the country.

  • May 1 (Thursday) - Labor Day / Maharashtra Day: Banks in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, and other states would be closed. Labour Day is celebrated to honour workers. In Maharashtra, this day is also celebrated as the state’s formation day.

  • May 7 (Wednesday) – Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti: It’s Rabindranath Tagore's birth anniversary. Banks in West Bengal would be closed on this occasion.

  • May 12 (Monday) – Buddha Purnima: Buddha Purnima is the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. It is an important religious holiday for Buddhists. Banks will remain closed in states such as Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and others.

  • May 23 (Friday) – Maharana Pratap Jayanti: This day celebrates the birth of Maharana Pratap, a great Rajput warrior king. Banks in Rajasthan will remain closed on this day.

  • May 26 (Monday) – Cheti Chand: Cheti Chand is the Sindhi New Year and is mainly observed by the Sindhi community. Some regions with a large Sindhi population may see bank closures on this day.

  • May 30 (Friday) – Jumat-ul-Wida: Jumat-ul-Wida is the last Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Banks in Jammu and Kashmir and parts of Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal may remain closed.

Weekend Bank Closures in May 2025

Along with the above holidays, banks will also be closed on weekends:

  1. All Sundays: May 4, 11, 18, and 25

  2. Second and fourth Saturdays: May 10 and May 24

According to RBI regulations, all banks in India are closed on Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.
