The current fiscal year will be ending soon, and the new fiscal year will begin on April 1, 2022. According to the Reserve Bank of India website, all commercial and cooperative banking institutions will be closed on Friday, April 1, due to the annual closing of accounts.
Bank holidays every month are determined by the Reserve Bank of India, which at the beginning of the year releases a month-wise list of such day-offs for private and public lenders. According to that list, bank holidays in April 2022 have been fixed at 15 for all private and public sector banks. This is because the month of April has several festivals lined up, including Assam’s Bihu and Bengali New Year for West Bengal.
Banks except in Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Chandigarh, and Mizoram will observe yearly closing of bank accounts, according to the RBI website.
According to the guidelines, all agency bank government transactions for the fiscal year 2021-22 must be accounted for within the same fiscal year.
Banks are open on the first and third Saturdays of each month but will be closed on April 16 due to Bohag Bihu, which falls on the third Saturday in various regions of the nation.
According to the RBI's bank holiday list for this year, the number of holidays has been fixed at nine for this month.
The remaining six bank holidays are weekend days off, with banks remaining closed on four Sundays and two Saturdays.
The central bank's list of holidays is divided into three categories: state-wide celebrations, religious holidays, and festival celebrations.
Last year, all agency banks kept their designated branches open for over-the-counter government transactions until the end of normal working hours on March 31, 2021. The reporting window for Central and State Government transactions to the RBI, which includes the uploading of GST / e-receipts luggage files, has been extended and will remain open till 1200 hours on April 1, 2021.
Some states may also observe the holiday on April 2 to commemorate Gudi Padwa, Ugadi Festival, 1st Navratra, Telugu New Year's Day, and Sajibu Nongmapanba.
Banks in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu, Goa, and Jammu and Kashmir will be closed on April 2.
