Ganesh Chaturthi is one of India's most popular Hindu festivals, celebrating birth of Lord Ganesha, the remover of all obstacles and god of wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune. This year, the festival starts on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, and will extend to ten days, ending with Ganesh Visarjan on September 6, 2025.

Since the festival is celebrated with utmost devotion and grand festivities in most states, the Reserve Bank of India has announced a bank holiday in various parts. The closure is not national-level, though.

Will Banks Be Closed on August 28, 2025?

Notably, there are some states that will also be celebrating a holiday on Thursday, 28th August 2025. These include parts of Odisha and Goa, where the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations spill over to the following day. Odisha will also be celebrating the Nuakhai festival on the same day, which adds to the longer bank holiday.

Banking Services During Holidays

Though physical branches will be closed in these states, the digital banking facilities will function as normal. Customers can utilize:

  1. ATMs to make cash withdrawals

  2. Mobile banking apps for fund transfers and bill payments

  3. Internet banking for payment of bills online

  4. UPI and digital wallets for quick payments

This way, banking activities are not totally hampered and the customers can perform their important financial transactions without hassle.

Why the Holiday Matters

Bank holidays such as Ganesh Chaturthi are affecting the customers who are dependent on branch-level services. Traders, businesses, and individuals who are required to deposit large amounts, clear cheques, or avail demand drafts can get delayed. So, it is always better to get the essential banking work done well in advance whenever such holidays are near.

Important Points to Note
