Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav on Tuesday said that Ayush industry is steadily progressing towards its ambitious USD 200 billion target. Chairing the meeting of Parliamentary Consultative Committee for Ministry of Ayush in New Delhi on August 19, Jadhav noted that this was the first time since the ministry’s creation in 2014 that it has its own dedicated consultative committee. He said this move would enable more focused discussions and provide stronger policy direction for the sector.
Highlighting the rapid growth of Ayush under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the minister pointed out that the sector now has a robust network of research councils, statutory bodies, and national institutes. He added that through the National Ayush Mission and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, traditional health services are reaching millions across the country.
On the global stage, Jadhav referred to the success of the International Day of Yoga 2025 celebrations in Visakhapatnam, where more than three lakh people participated under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” He also mentioned initiatives such as Prakriti Parikshan and Moringa-based diets as examples of evidence-backed, preventive healthcare models that promote sustainable and healthy lifestyles.
Several Members of Parliament shared their views during the meeting. Union Minister Purshottam Rupala suggested expanding awareness campaigns through posters and banners while also recognizing the contributions of grassroots Vaidyas at the village and district levels. BJP MP Laxmikant Bajpayee recalled Ayurveda’s vital role during the COVID-19 pandemic and recommended setting up more Ayush Wellness Centres.
Dr. Swami Sachidanand Hari Sakshi expressed solidarity with the ministry’s initiatives, while MP Krishna Prasad Tenneti said India’s vision of becoming a developed nation could only be realized if Ayush continues to expand and myths surrounding it are dispelled. Congress MP Jyotsna Charandas Mahant proposed documenting the traditional healing practices of Chhattisgarh’s Korba tribes to integrate indigenous knowledge into the Ayush framework.
Concluding the meeting, Minister Jadhav thanked the members for their valuable suggestions and said their contributions would play a crucial role in strengthening Ayush systems nationwide while enhancing India’s leadership in traditional medicine at the global level.
The meeting was attended by MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha across political parties, including Dr. Laxmikant Bajpayee, Dr. Swami Sachidanand Hari Sakshi, Dharmshila Gupta, Ashtikar Patil Nagesh Bapurao, Jyotirmay Singh Mahato, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Babubhai Jesangbhai Desai, and Krishna Prasad Tenneti.
