The Assam government said on Wednesday that it will establish 819 new teacher positions to fill at 422 tea garden schools run by the estates' authorities.

Following a Cabinet meeting, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated that the government will provincialize the tea garden management's schools. The government will assume all responsibilities of a non-government school if it is provincialized.

"Existing instructors' services will not be provincialized; they will continue to work under the existing regulations." "We will create new teacher positions and appoint them as government teachers," he stated. According to Pegu, the Assam government will invest Rs 33 crore on this project to provide quality education to youngsters from tea garden areas.

According to Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, the Cabinet has decided to streamline the process of land settlement in municipal areas for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U).

He further stated that the government has agreed to increase the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) loan from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to Rs 441.86 crore for 190 various projects. According to Baruah, the Cabinet also approved Rs 1,000 crore in budget recommendations to assist entrepreneurs from low-income families.

The government will invest Rs 5,000 crore over the next three years to "convert" over two lakh unemployed youths from BPL and low-income households into job creators, according to the Assam Budget for 2023-24. In the coming year, Rs 1,000 crore has been set aside for this purpose.
