Floodwaters in Assam are showing the receding sign. But still too 6 new live on Wednesday; a total life lost this year is 33. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that presently over 14.95 lakh people were affected in 21 districts of the state.
Besides, the sixth flood was recorded from Nagaon, Dhubri, Barpeta, and Nalbari, a 50-year old belongs to Cachar district died due to a landslide. Last month, 21 people died in a series of landslides in Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj districts.
According to the Central water commission (CWC) reduction in rainfall resulted has led to a decline in water levels of most rivers. However, some of them continue to be in danger level yet.
“River Brahmaputra has started falling in all districts of the state. As rainfall is likely to continue in next 4-5days with lesser intensity, the ‘Above Normal’ to ‘Severe Flood’ situation will continue with slow falling trend in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Sub- Himalayan West Bengal in the coming 3-4 days,” the CWC release said.
Floodwaters moved back from Majuli and West Karbi Anglong districts, however, vast areas of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Dhubri, South Salmara, GoalparaMorigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Chirang, Darrang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kamrup, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia are still submerged.
Barpeta is the worst-hit district with 5.95 lakh people suffering due to the floods, followed by 1.95 lakh in South Salmara and 94,000 in Goalpara. Presently 87,018.17 hectares of cropland and 2,197 villages are underwater.
Brahmaputra river’s tributaries Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat, Jia Bharali at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur and Kopili at Kampur in Nagaon water levels are above the danger mark. Damaged roads, bridges, buildings, and other infrastructure in Dibrugarh, Baksa, Nagaon, Barpeta, Darrang, Nalbari, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Morigaon, Majuli, Sivasagar and Kokrajhar districts are seen.
