The Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the inaugural programme on December 16. "The initiative by the State government to procure paddy at a minimum support price led to the procurement of a total of 6-lakh metric tonnes of the crop from as many as 62,000 farmers from across the state. This led to the transfer of an aggregate amount of Rs 12,000 crore into the accounts of the farmers and agriculturists," Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
He also advised the farmers in the state to practice commercial tree plantation and horticulture to increase their incomes like happening in their neighboring states.
Assam CM said that there is Rs 100 crore flower market in state, while the flowers cultivated in the state are only 15 per cent of the total demand.
