Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, will inaugurate the "Workshop on Sustainability and Circularity in the Dairy Sector" today, March 3, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event aims to promote sustainable dairy farming while ensuring a balance between economic growth and environmental responsibility.

Organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD) in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), the workshop will serve as a platform to discuss policies, initiatives, and technological advancements that can drive circularity in the dairy sector.

A major highlight of the workshop will be the signing of multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for establishing biogas plants across various states. These initiatives align with the government's broader vision of integrating circularity into the dairy sector, a concept that emphasizes resource reuse, regeneration, and recycling to maximize environmental benefits.

Additionally, the workshop will introduce comprehensive guidelines that promote environmentally responsible dairy farming. New financing programs under the NDDB and NABARD will also be announced, specifically for Large-Scale Biogas/Compressed Biogas (CBG) projects and the Sustain Plus Project.

The workshop will include insightful technical sessions focusing on sustainable manure management models that transform dairy waste into valuable resources such as biogas, compressed biogas (CBG), and organic fertilizers. These discussions aim to provide scalable solutions for waste-to-energy conversion, which can substantially enhance the efficiency and sustainability of dairy farming in India.

Industry leaders, experts from NDDB, and global organizations will participate in discussions on expanding circular dairy practices, exploring financing opportunities, leveraging carbon credits, and implementing waste-to-energy solutions. The role of advanced technologies in enhancing dairy farming efficiency will also be a key topic of discussion. These efforts align with Prime Minister  Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’ (Prosperity through Cooperation), underscoring the government’s commitment to sustainable agricultural and cooperative development.

The event will be attended by key dignitaries, including Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh, along with Union Ministers of State Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel and George Kurian, and senior officials from various ministries.
