Amid reports of increased infection of coronavirus across the country, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a Rs.1,70,000 crore relief package for people. With this initiative, she also announced the allocation of free cylinders for three months to beneficiaries under the Prime Minister Ujjwala scheme. 8.3 crore women will be benefiting from the Ujjwala scheme, as told by the Finance Minister.

What is Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana?
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is a social welfare scheme launched by the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 May 2016 with the slogan "Clean fuel, better life". Run by the Union Government in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Land, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana assures one stove and one LPG cylinder to the applicant. Its total cost is 3200 rupees, the government gives a subsidy of 1600 rupees and oil companies give the remaining 1600 rupees as a loan to the customers. The applicants have to pay it in EMI. Those customers who purchase 14.2 kg cylinders do not have to pay any EMI on the first six refills.
Who can Apply under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana?

The applicant must be a woman above the age of 18 years

The applicant must be a rural resident holding a BPL card

To receive the subsidy, the woman applicant must have a savings bank account in any nationalized bank across the country.

There should not be an LPG connection in the applicant’s family before applying to this scheme.

What is the Procedure of Applying under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana?
It’s not difficult to enroll for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and obtaining LPG in the Ujjwala scheme. If you are under BPL (Poverty Line) and you have a BPL card, it becomes easier. Interested candidates will have to fill the application form of the scheme and submit it to their nearest LPG distribution center to obtain an LPG connection under this scheme.
After filling all the information in the two-page application form, your name, address, Aadhaar Number and Jan Dhan/Bank account number will have to be submitted to the distribution center.
